Kindergarten
Salem Lutheran School

A full-day program where learning takes off—built on faith, strong academics, and a teacher who knows your child.

Building a Strong Foundation

Kindergarten at Salem Lutheran School is where your child’s educational journey begins in earnest. Our full-day private kindergarten gives students the academic, social, and spiritual foundation they need to succeed—not just in first grade, but for years to come.

Class size is small. The teacher knows every child. Instruction is purposeful and personal. Your kindergartner will learn to read, write, count, and think—all within a Christ-centered classroom where they feel safe and valued.

Families in Greenfield, Rockford, Hanover, Corcoran, and the surrounding area choose Salem’s kindergarten because they want more than a checkbox. They want a real academic start paired with real values.

Meet The Teacher

Mrs. Bohlmann

I have been teaching Kindergarten since 2019. I studied at Martin Luther College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 2013. I am MN State Licensed and participate in continuing education. I have had experience teaching various grade levels from birth to Grade 8 since I graduated-12 years.

Sharing God’s Word with the children and families I serve is my favorite part of being a teacher! I ask God to help me teach the next generation the truths of God’s Word and Christ’s love as well as provide a positive learning environment for children to grow and develop .

Kindergarten FAQs

Common questions from parents exploring private kindergarten options in Greenfield and the surrounding area.

Is Salem's kindergarten full-day or half-day?

Salem offers a full-day kindergarten program. The school day runs from 7:45 AM to 2:15 PM, following the same schedule as grades 1–8. Extended care is available through our SailorCare program if you need before- or after-school coverage.

How old does my child need to be for kindergarten?

Your child must turn five by September 1 of the enrollment year. They also need a recent physical exam and medical provider certification before starting.

What if my child isn't fully ready for kindergarten yet?

That is completely normal. Children develop at different speeds. Our kindergarten teacher meets each child where they are and helps them grow. You do not need to have every skill checked off before the first day.

If you are unsure whether your child is ready, we are happy to meet and talk through it with you.

Why choose private kindergarten over public kindergarten?

Private kindergarten at Salem offers a smaller class, more personal attention, and a faith-centered environment that public schools cannot provide. Your child's teacher will know them deeply—not just academically, but personally.

The kindergarten year is foundational. A strong start in a small, supportive setting builds habits and confidence that carry through every grade after it.

Is there homework in kindergarten?

Homework is occasional and short. It is primarily reading practice at home with a parent. The goal is to build the habit of learning together—not to pile on work for a five-year-old.

What happens after kindergarten at Salem?

Kindergartners move directly into Salem's 1st/2nd grade two-grade classroom. The transition is seamless. Students already know the building, the routines, and many of the people around them. That continuity helps children settle in quickly and keep growing.

How does faith show up in kindergarten?

Every day includes devotions, Bible stories, songs, memory work, and chapel worship. Faith is not a separate subject—it is woven into how the teacher interacts with students and how children learn to treat one another.

Can my child start at Salem for kindergarten even if they didn't attend Salem preschool?

Absolutely. Many families join Salem at kindergarten. Whether your child attended our preschool, another program, or stayed home, they are welcome. Our teacher is experienced at helping new students feel comfortable and catch their stride quickly.

How do I know if my child is learning what they should be?

You will hear from your child's teacher regularly—not just at conferences. We communicate openly about progress, milestones, and anything that needs attention. You will always know where your child stands.

How do I enroll my child in kindergarten?

Applications are accepted through FACTS beginning February 1 for the following school year. We recommend scheduling a tour first so you and your child can see the classroom and meet the teacher. Call us at (763) 498-7283 or visit the scheduling a tour  page to get started.
